Contact Our Experts View Our ProductsLearn some common methods of cleaning stone coated metal roofing, from basic detergent to more stringent options. Unlike asphalt roofing, stone coated metal roofing does not absorb moisture. That said, dust, dirt, and other airborne accumulation can occur; possible food sources for algae, mildew, or moss.
There are several options – the list below includes options that have been tested and proven in a number of environments, and on a number of stone coated finishes:
Verify with the manufacturer for specific cleaning instructions.
In general, use a soap cannon attached to a standard hose or a pressure washer hose to clean. DO NOT USE WATER PRESSURES ABOVE 500 PSI. DO NOT EXCEED 165 DEGREE WATER TEMPERATURE. Rely on the cleaner to do the heavy lifting and use water spray more for a rinse procedure than a primary lift method.
In all situations avoid forceful removal of stone coat granules.
Use fall protection, wear soft-soled shoes, and limit foot traffic to overlap nose of panels. (See product installation guides for specific foot placement).
After washing, rinse thoroughly with clear water to eliminate the potential of residue.
